Set just back from the sea in the salubrious suburban area of East Cliff, and not far from the town centre area of Lansdowne, it is incredibly easy to locate and drive to.

A great choice, then, for a Sunday lunch, and so my friend and I headed there to enjoy a four-course meal in a lovely dining atmosphere.

After parking up in the large car park we entered the impressive looking building and walked through the nicely furbished reception to the restaurant.

The four courses consisted of a starter, soup or sorbet, main and dessert, as well as coffee to finish – all for the very reasonable sum of just over £15.

When the menu came I was bamboozled by the sheer choice available.

After some lengthy discussion and debate I opted for the deep-fried goujons of fresh Scottish salmon served with tartare sauce and lemon, while my friend chose the continental meat platter of air dried ham, sliced duck and chicken with stuffed sweet peppers, which was also very pleasing, both aesthetically and on the palate.

For the second round of starters I opted for the excellent Roasted Tomato and Red Pepper soup, while my guest chose to cleanse their palate with a delightfully light and refreshing fruit sorbet.

 When choosing the mains my friend and I took longer than expected, purely because of the sheer variety available.

Chicken, pork, beef and fish dishes in different guises, as well as vegetarian options, were all there to be chosen from.

I opted for the roast rack of English pork served with apple sauce, savoury seasoning and roast jus, and my friend chose the traditional roast sirloin of Dorset beef served with Yorkshire puddings and all the exquisite trimmings one would expect of a top quality Sunday lunch.

Both my friend and I have big appetites, but neither of us could finish the main meal as the very generously sized and succulent portions of meat, combined with the potatoes, vegetables and trimmings, aside from being mouth-wateringly tasty, also provided a meal truly fit for a king.

Dessert was served in a help yourself banquet-style buffet, which displayed all the options on a large table, making it even harder to choose, as you could see them in all their glory.

After looking at the berry cheesecake, cheese board, trifle and the bread and butter pudding for some time, I opted for the trifle and my friend went for the berry cheesecake.

Both got a big thumbs up from the pair of us, with the berry cheesecake just edging the trifle as our joint favourite.

The meal had been accompanied throughout by live lounge piano music, including all the classic swing hits, which was at just the right level to provide a nice background atmosphere for the meal without being too intrusive or forcing loud conversation.

We discussed exactly how impressed we’d been with the whole meal over a nice coffee and marvelled at the incredibly efficient service we’d received all day.
