If you’re looking for a relaxing venue for a family Sunday lunch you need look no further than the Queens Hotel near Bournemouth’s East Cliff.
The relaxed feel of the restaurant is great for those who don’t fancy eating in a noisy pub environment, with suitably chilled music being provided by Andy Wilcox and his keyboard.
The restaurant is laid out in such a way that couples, families and larger parties can all be accommodated in separate areas allowing each to feel intimate and relaxed without the bigger groups dominating the space. When we visited the restaurant a 25th wedding anniversary party of 20 plus was being catered for in a side area and we hardly noticed they were there.
The menu presents you with a good range of dishes, starters consisted of Chicken salad, Chinese style Pork, Melon and Chicken Liver Pate. We decided on the Smoked Trout & Pouched Salmon tian with a Horseradish dressing, followed by fresh Tomato & Roasted red pepper soup to start.
For the main course the options included Roast Turkey in a creamy white wine and mushroom sauce, English Pork Belly and breaded Plaice. The roast rib eye of prime Beef with Yorkshire pudding and horseradish sauce was cooked to perfection with the meat tender and juicy, coupled with a good selection of vegetables, also perfectly prepared.
Vegetarians had the option of Spinach and Tagliatelli served with Honey roasted Peppers in a creamy white wine sauce.
For pudding there is an option of a hot desert or a choice from a cold desert buffet, including a well stocked cheese board.
All in an excellent meal with generous portions, and at £16.50 for four courses it also represents great value. My only advice would be to forgo breakfast to make the most of the culinary delights on offer.
