Switch case study: reopening the Queens Hotel & Spa with a £2million renovation

In a prime coastal location, the Queens Hotel & Spa combines seaside comfort with hotel luxury in the heart of Bournemouth.

In 2025, Switch Management Ltd acquired the hotel out of administration, and invested in a £2million refurbishment programme to bring the seaside property back to life.

Today, through our consistent delivery of the ‘Switch gold standard’, we are establishing Queens Hotel & Spa as a premier destination for corporate events, weddings, and wellness escapes, offering guests an elevated experience that’s one to remember.

The opportunity

Switch’s hospitality portfolio encompasses a range of premium assets across the Midlands, including Birmingham’s only major independent hotel, Park Regis, and the four-star aparthotel Birmingham, which opened in 2023.

Having built a successful track record in maximising the value of these sites through our management and consultancy services, Queens Hotel & Spa presented an exciting opportunity to make our first hotel purchase.

With a prime position on Bournemouth’s coastline, we were confident that Queens Hotel & Spa could be the go-to destination for tourists exploring the local area, while offering premium spa facilities and hospitality for residents to enjoy right on their doorstep.

Our subsequent acquisition in June 2025 secured the long-term future of the property and its 68 employees, following the hotel’s entry into administration the previous year.

To help breathe new life into the site, and establish the hotel as a leading visitor destination, we embarked on an extensive four-month refurbishment programme – investing £2million to the project with a vision to reposition the hotel in line with Switch’s award-winning hospitality portfolio.

 

The activity

Through significant investment in a range of short and long-term redevelopment projects, we focused on enhancing the hotel’s wedding, wellness, and corporate events proposition.

The renovation included a new reception area, refurbished guest bedrooms and function rooms, fully upgraded gym and spa facilities, and improvements to the hotel grounds. Operational systems were also updated to ensure a seamless and comfortable stay for guests.

Following the refurbishment, the hotel now offers 109 high-quality bedrooms across six room types, designed to cater for a wide range of stays - from relaxing seaside breaks and family holidays to business trips and group excursions. Each room type has been upgraded to provide modern comfort and premium amenities that suit every guest.

Wellness is a strong focus of the newly upgraded facilities, with the hotel’s luxury spa offering a variety of treatments designed to help guests relax and recharge, from massages and facials to full-body treatments.

The hotel’s versatile event spaces are another key asset, making it an ideal venue for meetings, weddings, corporate events, and private functions. Flexible indoor and outdoor spaces cater to events and gatherings of all sizes, allowing guests to benefit from an attractive coastal location, plus expert coordination from Switch’s experienced team.

 

The results

The Queens Hotel & Spa officially reopened in April 2026, with an expert team bringing a passion for high-quality customer service, combined with in-depth knowledge of the local area, to take the hotel into its new phase.
